Last year I featured some of Maury’s photographs, so I was familiar with his work. A couple weeks ago he sent me an email to show work from his new series ’68 Extra Fat.’
This series is a lyrical investigation of Atlanta, Georgia. The photos are not meant to necessarily depict a comprehensive or objective record of the city. Rather, the images are my attempt to capture the visual language of Atlanta, along with the heat, the sounds, the smells. The title, possibly a ‘Smokey and the Bandit’ reference, is something I overhead in the Clermont Lounge on Ponce de Leon Ave.
