Episode 2.2 – Yoshi & Tamara Kametani
Yoshi & Tamara were one of the first guests last season. We had a nice conversation, even though I had no idea what I was doing. This year they contributed to ‘Photographers’ Sketchbooks’ so I ended up working closely with them which allowed me to learn more about their process. The more I’ve learned about their photography, the more I’ve come to respect and admire them as artists.
As collaborators they’re in sync when discussing their projects and ideas, but they each retain their individuality as artists, which for me makes their work even more dynamic. In our conversations, I’m continually inspired by their knowledge and passion for photography. They’ve offered me invaluable, honest feedback on a current project I’m working on, which I’m incredibly grateful for.
Best of all, they’re just getting going, so I’m certain they’ll continue to produce interesting books which challenge us conceptually and visually.
This episode was recorded at the apartment of Olia Yatskevich and Mathieu Asselin in Long Island City. They have graciously welcomed us into their home to record some of the episodes. The plan is to have small dinner parties where we share photobooks, conversations and record a podcast or two. You’ll get an opportunity to hear Mathieu and Olia in next weeks episode. I’m excited for that one as well.
In this episode, we discussed IPG’s latest book Sumimasan, as well as Pig 05049. By Christien Meindertsma and A Drop In The Ocean By Alessandro Calabrese & Milo Montelli. Check out the spreads at the links below.
