Episode 2.16 – Anna Yatskevich

Recorded February 28th, 2015 at Stockholm Studios in Bushwick, Brooklyn

Anna Yatskevich goes by jazzaddict on social media, which should give you a good indication about her primary photographic and musical interest. She joined us for the recording of the double header with Yoshi & Tamara  and Olga and Mathieu.

When I found out she’s been photographing around some of the jazz clubs in New York, I thought she’d make an interesting guest. Her primary venue for photographing is Smalls in the West Village. I finally made it out with her last month and enjoyed myself, even though I don’t know much about contemporary jazz.

One aspect of this evening that I particularly enjoyed was our group discussion about how Anna could use the access she’s gained to Smalls in order to create a book about her experiences at the club meeting musicians and passionate fans.

She’s also been photographing recording sessions, designing covers and doing the New York freelance hustle. She’s the co-creator and a writer for the music blog Flowers in A Gun, where she frequently reviews live shows.

It was great to have her join us for the show and share her passion for jazz and photography.

Special thanks to Yoshi Kametani for the photographs.
