Episode 2.12 – Ethan Aaro Jones

Ethan was in town at the end of January for Soth’s Songbook opening, so Tom suggested we bring him on the show. They’re old friends from RIT and back in 2008, Ethan and David Wright collaborated on  puase, to begin, which was around the time I started blogging on LPV.

Pause, to Begin

is a unique project born in discussions about the direction of contemporary photography today. A competition geared towards the emerging photographer, Pause, to Begin selected 15 photographers in April, 2008. After a juried selection, the creators of Pause, to Begin traveled 10,000 miles to meet and interview the selected photographers about their work.

Ethan now manages Big Al’s, which is the printing and scanning service that is run out of Alec Soth’s St. Paul studio. We chatted about that as well as making the prints for Songbook. I especially enjoyed talking to Ethan about his own photography and process. Turns out we both enjoy the role walking plays in creating photographs.

i guesstimate that 20% of the words that Ethan said in this podcast were “like”s.
interesting discussion, but those like`s were really killing the flow…
